Coaching

One person, one door.

A keynote lights a room for an hour. Coaching is for when one person, or one team, wants the change to hold. It starts with a phone call and no pitch.

Who it's for

Three people who call.

Almost nobody who works with Brian has ever jumped out of anything. They have something in common anyway.

The leader

Runs a team and is tired of being the steadiest person in every room. Wants a method for pressure, not more willpower.

Steady on purpose.

The performer

Athlete, pilot, surgeon, founder. Performs in high-consequence moments and knows the mental side is the unfinished part of the training.

The last ten percent.

The one at a turning point

Something ended, or is about to. Wants to walk through it awake instead of around it, with someone who has done the same.

Through, not around.

How it works

Start with a conversation.

Three steps, in this order. Nobody is asked to commit before the second one.

  1. A phone callThirty minutes, free. What you're facing, what you've tried, and whether Brian is the right person. If he isn't, he'll say so and point you somewhere better.
  2. A first sessionNinety minutes on Zoom or in person. Where you are, what "better" would look like, and the first thing to practice. You leave with that, whether or not you continue.
  3. A rhythmWeekly or monthly sessions. Most people work with Brian for three to six months, then check in when a new door shows up.

One on one

Direct, practical, and yours.

Sessions are built around the thing in front of you this month: the decision, the performance, the relationship, the fear that keeps showing up in the same place. Brian brings thirty years of watching people meet fear well and badly, and a habit of saying the useful thing plainly.

Expect homework. Expect to practice between sessions. The session is where you learn the move; the week is where it becomes yours.

Walk with Brian

Meditation in motion.

Two hours on a trail in the Maryland woods, at an easy pace, with the kind of conversation that only happens when nobody is looking at a screen. Part contemplative practice, part nature walk, part the best meeting your team has had in a year.

Families, friends and small teams are all welcome. Kids especially. Brian's two sons have been coming since they could walk, and the walks are better for it.

Team programs

Make the keynote stick.

A keynote plus three to six working sessions with one team, built around one pressure that team is under and one change you would be able to measure by the end. On site or virtual, over six to twelve weeks.

Good for teams that just heard Brian speak and want the ideas to survive contact with the next quarter. Bad for teams looking for a morale event. He will tell you which one you are planning.

Questions people ask first

Before you call.

Is this therapy?

No. Brian is a coach and a teacher, and he studied contemplative psychology, but he is not a licensed therapist. If it becomes clear that someone needs one, he will say so and help them find a good one.

Do I need to be a skydiver?

No. Almost nobody who works with Brian is. The sky is where he learned this. Your work is where you will use it.

How fast does it work?

You will leave the first session with one thing to practice, and most people feel a difference within a few weeks. Lasting change is a three-to-six-month project. Brian will be honest about which one you are signing up for.

Can my company pay for this?

Often, yes. Brian can invoice an organization directly and provide whatever your learning and development team needs for approval.

What if I don't know what I need?

That is what the first phone call is for. Say that, and Brian will ask the questions.

Step one

Thirty minutes, no pitch.

Tell Brian a little about what is in front of you. He will write back with a couple of times to talk.
